There is no town water in Tamworth. There’s a small private system — Tamworth Water Works, run by Lakes Region Water Company since the mid-nineties — that serves about sixty houses along Main Street, the Chinook Trail and Route 113, fed from springs off 113A. The town’s master plan describes it running 70 to 80 psi during the day and dropping to gravity, around 20 psi, overnight. And the wells here are two different animals. Something like two-thirds of Tamworth heats with oil, so a good number of houses already have a boiler that could run an indirect tank — often the best answer nobody suggested. Propane is the next most common, and it’s where tankless makes sense. Straight electric tanks are common in camps and in the manufactured-home parks, and we work on those too.

On soft valley water, ten to twelve years is reasonable. On hard bedrock water with iron, we see tanks fail at six to eight because the anode rod is gone by year three and the bottom fills with sediment.
